The Co-operative Power Supply Association Sirisilla

The Co-operative Power Supply Association Sirisilla was established as a pilot project with the proposals of National Rural Electricity Cooperative Association (NRECA) with the financial assistance of Rural Electrician Corporation New Delhi to rapidly undertake rural electrification in the backward Sirisilla taluk of the then united Karimnagar district.

History

Co-operative Electricity Supply Society Limited (SEN) started its operations on November 1, 1970, and its own building was inaugurated in July 1974 at the hands of the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Marri Chenna Reddy. This cooperative society, which started serving 46 villages in 1970, now serves 230 villages in Prasutham Rajanna Sirisilla district. Apart from handloom workers, electricity is also supplied from this company to domestic, commercial, environmental, agricultural and street lamps.

Main Objectives

The main objective of starting this organization is to increase the food production in Sirisilla Metta region and in the beginning of 1970-71 there were 2299 agricultural services and 2421 other classes of services h electricity supplying. This co-operative is a boon for the farmers who do not have proper water facilities or only through electricity connection.

Expansion

Besides Sirisilla, there are four other such co-operative societies in India: Hukeri (Karnataka), Kodinur (Gujarat), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and originated from Moola Pravara (Maharashtra). Subsequently, Cheepurupalli, Anakapalli, Kuppam, and Layandu in Andhra Pradesh also started cooperative power supply societies.

Since the establishment of Co-operative Electricity Supply Society Limited (SEN) in our district, the efforts of the staff and management of this organization have been immense for the successful running of the operations.
